# URL shortners

URL shortening is a technique on the World Wide Web in which a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) may be made substantially shorter and still direct to the required page. This is achieved by using a redirect which links to the web page that has a long URL. For example, the URL

can be shortened to

and the URL

can be shortened to

Often the redirect domain name is shorter than the original one. A friendly URL may be desired for messaging technologies that limit the number of characters in a message (for example SMS), for reducing the amount of typing required if the reader is copying a URL from a print source, for making it easier for a person to remember, or for the intention of a permalink. In November 2009, the shortened links of the URL shortening service Bitly were accessed 2.1 billion times. So some of url shortners pay money per click . Above information is taken from Wikipedia.

Many content creators think its attractive. Because at last It pays money for every click you have achieved on your posted link .

Many new bloggers and writers use this for earning little bit of extra money.

Are paying url shortners worth spending time on?

So honestly, they are just waste of time. Because many of them pay just $3–$7 as an average for 1000 clicks. So just think for a second would you annoy your precious audience by showing annoying ads and misguiding them to spam links for 3 to 7 dollars.

It is a real thing that if a regular internet user finds out that you are give a url shortened link , he/she will afcourse stop watching your content. As you know-

“every little drop makes a sea”

And

“Every audience makes thousands of audience”

So would you leave hundreds and thousands of audience just for 3 to 7 $. Just think about it once.

Your audience is your power because you can sell your own products to audience and they will honestly buy your products which may even cost $100/product.

You can even sell them some type of course and earn regularly.

Remember your audience is your power.

Do not let your audience go away for few dollars. If you truly want to earn money by monetizing your writings or blogs . Just go for services like Google Adsense.

Google AdSense

by Arunas Kacinskas , Behance.net

Google AdSense is a program run by Google through which website publishers in the Google Network of content sites serve text, images, video, or interactive media advertisements that are targeted to the site content and audience. These advertisements are administered, sorted, and maintained by Google. They can generate revenue on either a per-click or per-impression basis. Google beta-tested a cost-per-action service, but discontinued it in October 2008 in favor of a DoubleClick offering (also owned by Google). In Q1 2014, Google earned US$3.4 billion ($13.6 billion annualized), or 22% of total revenue, through Google AdSense.

AdSense is a participant in the AdChoices program, so AdSense ads typically include the triangle-shaped AdChoices icon. This program also operates on HTTP cookies. Over 11.1 million websites use AdSense.

Above was Wikipedia info of what is Adsense and how does it work.

Why am I recommending AdSense over url shortners?

by Yurii Fedorchuk , Behance.net

Many url shortners just pay 0.003$ per click. But Google AdSense pays 68% money to publisher. If advertiser pays 100$ to google it will pay 68$ to you(publisher).

It generally pays 0.10$-0.30$ per views but average is 0.18$ per view/click.

So you can guess difference between 0.18$/view and 0.003$/view.

There is other reason for which you should consider using AdSense cause it is a genuine service. There will not be any ban or block in this service while many url shortners are discontinued after 1 or 2 years. But Google AdSense will survive until Google lives.

Fun fact- I have heard somewhere that many url shortners use AdSense themselves to publish ads. I am not sure about this but you can research it on your own.

Conclusion

So straightforward url shortners are wastage of time and if you are really willing to make money per click then use Google AdSense.

If you are looking for a good earning then you should probably build a honest audience who are willing to spend time and money on your content or products.

You can use combination of advertise publishers like AdSense(for your kind information there are many more services like Google AdSense) and affiliates like Amazon affiliate program.

Amazon affiliate program.

Credits-Google

Here I am giving a short summary of Amazon affiliate program-

Amazon affiliate program is an affiliate marketing program that allows website owners and bloggers to create links and earn referral fees when customers click through and buy products from Amazon. ... Provide consumers the convenience of referring them to a trusted site where they can immediately purchase products you advertise.

Amazon affiliate program pays you commission on every affiliate link used by you to attract customers for products on amazon.com

You may have seen many technology YouTube channels posting Amazon product links in their description those are Amazon affiliate program links.

You can also use Flipkart affiliate program. Based on users of your area you can research which e-commerce website is most used in your area and join affiliate program based on users.

Many network marketers and content creators use multiple ways to earn a good amount of income on their content.

Good luck! creators ☺️
